Session Overview: Panelists will discuss the results of the 2019 legislative session in addition to expectations and thoughts on the upcoming 2020 legislative session.

10:30     Department for Environmental Protection

Session Overview: Federal and State Collaboration to Protect Kentucky’s Environment. When EPA promulgates environmental regulations and standards, States are primarily responsible for implementation and enforcement of those requirements.  The panel will include EPA and EEC representatives and will focus on the collaboration between EPA and DEP to ensure that standards and processes necessary to protect the environment are implementable and achievable.   Speakers will discuss two significant regulatory initiatives, the Waters of the United States and the Affordable Clean Energy Rule.

1:30   Department for Natural Resources

Session Overview: Speakers will discuss the White Oak initiative and sustaining Kentucky’s Forest and Bourbon Industries. In addition, a presentation on Kentucky’s Nature Preserves program and the management of endangered species and natural areas will be provided.

 3:00        Public Service Commission 

Session Overview: The panelists will provide updates on selected priority PSC initiatives (such as the results of PSC’s investigation of water districts with significant water loss problems) and also discuss the nexus between environmental regulations and the role of the economic regulator.
